New Bad Guys!
So, the "Church of One", eh?

Given their ley line sabotage, sounds like an Abyssal cult, or worse, Throne-backed.

(yes, I view Scelesti as having better moral grounds than Seers. After all, at least Abyss cultists don't worship Embodiments of Totalitarianism, and at least the Abyss hews to its deals).

@Leliel: I cannot express how much I enjoy the fact that this is the first comment regarding The Church of One.

Scelesti are devoted to tearing apart the fabric of reality! At least the Seers place importance on protecting and preserving reality.

@Strill: The Abyss isn't exactly non-existence like most mages believe, it's actually a collection of all the "failed" realities due to the Exarchs and Oracles messing with reality way too much during the Fall. So the Abyss doesn't strike out against vulgar magic as it simply spills in because of it.

Why do you think Acamoths wanna return to the Abyss? It's their home, they live there.

The Scelesti understand this, so they're not automatically evil, they might just believe that no one reality should "succeed" over the others (keep in mind, that's just one conclusion they can come to).

Besides, the Exarchs WANT reality to be consumed by the Abyss anyways so they don't have to share power with anyone else. The Seers are fooling themselves into thinking that the Exarchs are gonna save them before that happens.

Guess a sucker Awakens every minute, huh?

@epicarp I'm aware of what the Abyss is, and you're missing the fact that it damages the tapestry of reality. It's not just flowing into the gaps in the world, it's tearing the world apart in the process.

If the Exarchs WANTED reality to be consumed by the abyss, the Seers and Scelesti would be one group. They're not. The Exarchs depend on the integrity of reality, and on the status quo. Introducing the Abyss to the world is the complete opposite of both of those goals. The Exarchs want the world to be a cage, so why would they want to destroy that cage with the Abyss?!

Allowing the Abyss to consume the world wouldn't make the Exarchs the uncontested rulers of the world, it would bring forth an unlimited number of competitors from all the incompatible conflicting symbols floating around in the Abyss and vying for power, assuming that anything even resembling a world still exists afterwards. The Abyss would probably also have a good chance of just straight up annihilating the Exarchs. It's probably the worst thing they could possibly do.

And yes, the Scelesti are absolutely evil. They represent nihilism, and would rather that the Supernal and Fallen worlds be destroyed, and all of creation descend into an incoherent jumble of contradicting concepts and meaningless nonsense where coherence is impossible.

@Strill: Given the kind of existence the Exarchs want, you have to wonder if the absolute end of the world as we know it is really the worse solution.

Besides, the Abyss doesn't want to destroy reality, not in the estimation of most Scelesti. It wants to REPLACE it. The Annunaki (the living dimensions and alternate universes that compose the Abyss) are realities that just didn't quite make the cut, and they want to try again, all of them.

Most are horrible (Prince of 100,00 Leaves, anyone?), but the idea of summoning a true utopia from the Abyss and wiping the slate clean attracts idealists as well as destroyers (ask Theumiel or Brother Ben).

Seers? Seers are authoritarian, greedy sellouts. I can respect the grandiose nature of the Accursed, but Seers? The banality of evil is just something I find disgusting.

But, that's my opinion. They're still both villains.

Minor bug
Heads up, the in-comic progression from page 44 to page 45 doesn't work, it loops back in on itself.

@chibisilverwings you have some 'splaining to do... http://new4.fjcdn.com/large/pictures/34/ac/34ac12_5562753.jpg

I'll be quite honest, I have no idea who these various groups are, but I am curious why nobody seems that interested in this very tall, possibly-horned lady.

Nevermind
I had a rant, but it got eaten by the net. I'll edit in pieces if I can salvage it.

At least Amicil's birthday party sounds like it could be... Interesting.

I am intrigued by this conversation, but cannot add to it. I'm joining the "ooh, it's a birthday?" group.
