I believe amical goal in this match is to force them to use magi and relie on that. Proving that they need it.
In Amical POV,
the result of the match may be irrelevant :
> if amical win or draw, he decide their fate
> if he lose, he will point them their use of magic and their weakness in that matter.

right in the beginning adrestia says "Ive had climb a fence with worse" i think its supposed to be "Ive had to climb ..." instead :P?

A typo:
A word seems to be missing from Adrestia's first speech bubble. Not sure what, but the syntax is off.

So did we just see him play out a game, then reset it back to turn one? Damn, this is getting freaky.

That last image threw me. I thought I was done until I saw Don Quixotes' post. And that's a shame if that's the case, because that means that Billy won and Amical just took it all back. =/

One moment Billy is thinking that Amical is playing like a Grand Master, which he would only know if they were several moves in, the next he makes note of Amical ending his first turn. Gotta wonder if Billy remembers that now or not.

I have to wonder what Amical would gain by winning, though. I mean, I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to send them back to where they came from, now that they're Awakened. He had reasons for acquiring and Awakening them, after all. I suppose he might relent and let them stay with certain conditions. I don't know if it matters to him that such an action might be seen as soft, or perhaps that's a bonus. He makes them think he cares. Perhaps he just wants to take Billy down a notch.

@shylarah: As we've seen before, Amical doesn't hesitate to, shall we say, uproot his Seedlings at will. Honestly, our protagonists could just as easily have been the ones that died in the Awakening arena instead of who we've got now. Sending them back to the supplier seems like a plausible thing for him.

Anyone for a game?
After seeing all the other cool stuff that this comic has done, the unreasonable side of me is somewhat disappointed that we didn't have to play a chess game here to move on.

This certainly does seem like an odd tactical move for Amical at this point. If he really wanted to get rid of them all (which he does in either outcome of this match if he does indeed stick to the arrangement), I imagine Amical would prefer to shoot them himself rather than send them back. So the conclusion is that Amical feels confident in victory and will use the threat of sending them back as a way to make them feel indebted to him. I would imagine it is obvious that he has no intention of sending them back. So I must assume that he is planning on using the threat as a way to get them to work harder and behave, or he is actually playing for a draw. A draw would certainly be in Amical's favor, as it would keep the status quo while still bringing Billy down a peg or two.

King's Indian Defense?
This certainly is an interesting board position, and there are a couple ways of getting here but the best one I see is a variation on the King's Indian Defense, played like so:
1. d4 Nf6
2. c4 g6
3. Nc3 Bg7
4. e4 d6
5. Nf3 O-O
6. h3 e5
7. d5 a5
8. Be3 Na6

Although I would expect Billy to be more aggressive.

I do dearly dearly love chess, but I'm nowhere NEAR on a level that would allow me to write the level of sophisticated chess game that a Grandmaster would play. I'd LOVE to have a skilled chess player to help me write unique games, but right now the only even slightly ranked chess player I have a chance to talk to speaks only Spanish, so we end up having to talk through another friend translating and he only has time to look over my writing to make sure there's not anything blatantly wrong.

I want to respect the sport, SO many movies and tv shows etc out there throw chess in to make a character look smart, and then don't even bother setting up a board correctly, and I don't want to be that guy XD I try my hardest, but I really need a chess consultant sometime who I can talk to a bit faster. I seriously appreciate that I even have what I have now, but I'm still hoping to find a chess player who can help me write unique games specifically for Billy, since I want him to have a style. For now I'm modeling him mostly after Nakamura (playing online frequently, and a really skilled Blitz player).

@ChibiSilverWings: Thanks. I had fun trying to figure it out, but nice to see the actual game. I am a bit disappointed cause the first thing I did was search through GM game databases. But it seems that the ones I searched did not actually include blitz games, even though I thought they did.

@Voidwolf: I picked something sorta on the obscure side haha so I'm kinda glad it was hard to find. We have some detectives amongst this fanbase so I'm kinda pleased no one found it yet.

@ChibiSilverWings: That is a good choice, cause if you analyze that game the play was done well in the beginning but several big mistakes were made on both sides near the end. Amical is out of mana, so he's losing his magical advantage, and Billy is loosing blood so he's not thinking as clearly.

@Voidwolf: After doing some more research on the opening, I realize this would totally be an opening that an aggressive player would use. Even though the beginning is more defensive and passive, this opening rewards aggressive play going into midgame.
