Hmm. I wonder what Amical's excuse is going to be -- and what his real reasoning is.

I'm pretty sure that Amical's legacy is The Awakening Gambit. He plays chess, he forces sleepers into "awaken or die" situations with the goal of artificially facilitating awakenings, and they said at one point that he is an Acanthus. Although his personality is not something I would usually consider Adamantine Arrow material...

@D3c3nd4n7: Ah, that makes more sense. Despite the different order, I still think that he fits the Awakening Gambit really well :P

@Cardran: There's no reason members of other sects can't use it, is there?One takes what works and runs with it. @shylarah "Performance reviews are coming up." Which might not be far from the truth

@Cardran: well the silver ladder believe that magic is the divine right of all humanity so I think the awakening gambit really suits the group. Since its they're aspirations to have all of humanity awaken and have entire cities of just awakened beings in order to fight the paradox I think they might have many who follow the path of the Gambit

I know OF the general World of Darkness settings, but not much about them. Everything is a cunning twist to me, so I'm just along for the ride.

But Amical is definitely rushing things, for what? Who can really say...

@Don Quixotes: I gotta say, I think some of the readers know the canon more than me! When we play and write in this universe, we've operated on lots of homebrew and mostly worked from the primary Mage: The Awakening book rather than any of the side books (though we own almost all of them XD).

It's so much fun for me to see what people speculate with and without deeper knowledge of WoD canon. I know as a group our goal has been to not make prior knowledge any sort of requirement, and hopefully you feel like you get just as much out of it as those who know it well.

@ChibiSilverWings: Personally, I've been reading this comic with absolutely no idea what it's based around (and at first, I didn't know it was based around any existing work at all). I've found the story engaging and inclusive all the same, and it's definitely been nothing short of fascinating.

I've read a lot of webcomics over the last few years (I lost count around 70), and I can comfortably say this one is one of the best I've ever read, and it just keeps getting better.

@Deschia: Wow thank you! That's some really kind praise! It's so nice to hear that we're achieving what we're trying to achieve with it. Thanks again!

I find it interesting that the guards and Amical have alluded to "the spirits" as being a major antagonist of this story. The MtA LARP and the tabletop I'm playing also have some incredibly nasty spirits running around. Both high rank spirits and master spirit mages that succumb to hubris are pretty terrifying things to deal with in the WoD universe.

@Cardran:
The whole purpose of the Awakening Gambit's attainments is to prevent any harm from coming to the prospect while they're in their dangerous situation. Amical shows no compunctions against shooting anyone who fails to awaken. Why then would he bother with the Awakening Gambit?

@Strill: Per the actual text of the Awakening Gambit:
"By analysis and careful manipulation, they say, it is possible to arrange a scenario in which a person must either Awaken or perish. These 'Kingmakers' step in only if the target seems to be leaning more toward the 'perish' option, but otherwise they welcome a new mage. . ."

This wording can be interpreted in a number of ways but I think it leaves plenty of room for Kingmakers to hold divergent practices and philosophies. All members of a legacy do not hold identical beliefs regarding the methodology of their group. Amical could easily have decided that a "separate the wheat from the chaff," methodology was appropriate in this situation.
