as this comic moves on i get more and more convinced that Amical(omg i remember a name 0_0) is evil...

anyway i havent commented before at all
this comic is superb its one of the first ones ive started to read on smackjeeves and its still on my top fav list
i like the storyline and i am interested where this is going
also the flash style youve used is unique and fitting
may i ask how much time does it take you to do one page?

@Esilvain: The build time varies from comic to comic. First draft writing normally takes me an hour or two per "batch" which is 2 weeks of comics, moreso if I need to consult with the other creators on specifics of lines.

ChibiSilverWings then comes in with her edits and expands it. The majority of Chapter 2 was entirely rewritten to her draft and was SO much better for the fact. Typically a batch will expand to 3 weeks worth of comic in this process.

As we build 2 weeks in advance and write about a month ahead, we usually send "art requests" down to Alexis for sprites and Shadowednavi for Backgrounds and CGs.

Once all the writing and art is set I use my template in Photoshop to build the image files (whether they transparent PNG or basic JPEG, depending on my needs and how large I want to make the file) which mostly due to my slow ass computer takes about 45 minutes for a 10 panel comic. Once again, depending on complexity.

Flash coding is actually the easiest part. I just code the button to flip the panels, create the motion tweens if there are fade effects and code the previous comic to link to the new one once it is built.

I normally try to devote an hour a day to making new morphE comics. I know ChibiSilverWings works just as hard and often as I do on it all.

Then you get the ones like our next update. Which take significantly longer...

@stkbayfield: If at some point you'd like to figure out exactly how long one update takes to make, I volunteer my services. We can have "at minimum" "on average" and "this update was super-complicated-augh" numbers. Those can be convenient to toss at people.

@Profpatsch: Hmmm you make a good point, the cast is clearly too large. Who should we kill first? :D

@Esilvain: As for my end, I work on the script in bulk, usually a few updates at a time. Craig writes what is basically outlines of a scene, and I spend a lot of time fiddling with polishing character interactions, timing, word choices and lengthening dialogue significantly. As Craig said, page count usually nearly doubles when I add stuff to it.

I also do a lot of the job of tracking, adding to, and changing the original plot. Alexis wrote the original, we're all working on the new one. I've done most of the "new" character creation and fleshing out of older characters that didn't have full backstories in the original.

As for my editing job, I do the work of telling people to redo things, picking when to ask for a CG, when to ask for music, describing some of what the CGs are supposed to look like before Trish draws them, push and plan for meetings to discuss stuff, telling Craig to fix things like expressions and fades and all manner of tiny things. Craig and my other comrades have to do the painful work of redoing things when I don't give the thumbs up. And that makes them way more awesome than me.

Another thing Craig and I do that he didn't mention is sound work. He does the editing, cleaning, and placing for them while many of the sounds I record myself, though he does some recording too. The gun one we actually bought rights to. Other than that, pretty much all us.

I'd say if you count in all of our contributions, it takes about 3 hours per page, and much more if we're doing anything special on that page (a CG, a clickable thing, music, animation) it can take more like 5. But big updates like the Dream Sequence (and our next update) can take multiple weeks of hard work. I'm very sure Craig has clocked in a full work week worth of time on this next one, coding and recoding and adjusting for it end up the best it can be.

That said, I love our big updates and we wish we could do them more often!

@stkbayfield: If I may ask, what kind of specs does your computer have? I'm curious just how slow it is. I know my computer can handle just about anything but it cost me a pretty penny. Or more than a hundred thousand pretty pennies. The price of being a PC gamer/programmer, you want speed you pay out the nose for it. -_-

@ChibiSilverWings: I think I have a good idea about who might die, based on some very simple reasoning (which also means I'm probably wrong). I'll just keep it to myself, in case I'm right. Don't want to spoil anything. :D

And I assume by "I love our big updates and we wish we could do them more often!" you mean "I love making Craig suffer!"

@MoroseMoros: It's mostly the lack of RAM which kills me, particularly with how many layers I use. 2.9gig usable RAM. The processor is actually a nice 2.2gig Dual Pentium, so I can't complain there.

@Esilvain: Also, to answer the question on how long it takes to do things, Tricia-style!

Each background and CG is different, and can take anywhere from 2-25 hours, depending on the complexity of it. Which is a very large range and probably not very helpful. Generally, the more lineart or characters in the background, the more work needs to be done.

So the caverns, for example, have next to no lineart in them. If there's a crate, maybe a little bit of linework for guides, but there's not going to be any celshading or anything like that - it's all painted in. So a cavern BG will take maybe 1-2 hours, MAYBE 3 if I'm particularly distracted.

Then you have BGs like the parlor here, and the library as well, which have a lot of angles, perspectives, and straight lines. These take quite awhile to finish. Occasionally, I'll work on these in livestream if you ever want to see them painted in real time ^_^

CGs with two or three characters tend to take about 10 hours from conception to finish.

And music... well. That's a different beast entirely 8D

I tend to think I know a fair amount of the WoD. However, I have almost no idea about the spirit world of nWoD. I have no doubt it can be deadly, but now I have to figure out what book to grab to find out more.

Curses. I have to go read more books. What a horrible, horrible fate.

@ChibiSilverWings: I have Y, but it has been a while since I picked it up. The postgame seemed lacking, and I never was a good battler, so I got bored. If you want to exchange friend codes, and perhaps savagely beat me in battle, I can dust it off. I guess the SmackJeeves PM system would work best for that.
