I'm not really familiar with Mage setting, but the dialog on the last couple pages really makes me feel like our protagonists could've end up being changelings if not for Amical…

Wow, this is getting dark.

So they see the main cast more as expendable crops than people? Let’s see where that goes …

well they're a pretty balanced group themselves if they tried they could find a salution for example since maloy is having more success with Asia he could teach her the basics and rick can teach adrestia and curio since life and death go hand in hand, and that leaves Amical to focus on cypher and billy cause cypher has the same arcanum and theres no way amical is abandoning his precious billy. no offense to flux but she doesnt seem confident enough for a pupil.

I just started reading this a few days ago, and until now I had practically forgotten that they weren't just in Hogwarts with smaller class sizes. Is there a term for Stockholm Syndrome when you aren't actually the person that was kidnapped, but just someone reading about it? Observer's Stockholm Syndrome? Stupidly Charismatic Captor?

@MoroseMoros: Wait? This isn't Hogwarts?! If it isn't, what is Ron Weasley Dawn doing here?

@ChibiSilverWings @MoroseMoros: **Amical's gun points at Tyler and announces to the arena** ANOTHER WEASLEY, EH. I KNOW JUST WHAT TO DO WITH YOU.

**shoots him in the shoulder** GRYFFINDOR--- er, acanthus

Hmm, this is a fun challenge. Billy is obviously Malfoy, Asia makes a good Luna (they're both quirky but smart), Curio could fit as Harry, Adrestia seems like a Hermione to me (strong, driven, and capable), Amical is Dumbledore (eccentric headmaster with a mysterious past and ulterior motives), Malloy is McGonagall (stern but still nice), Rick is Snape (not the most friendly guy), and Flux is Hagrid (awkward but friendly).

I could just see Amical coming out in his fancy bathrobe/"wizard's robe" and sending our heroes on a "quest" to explore his bedroom/"The Chamber of Secrets". ;)

@Shadowednavi: Perfection. I love it.

@MoroseMoros:

Amical: Yes, welcome to the CHAMBER OF SECRETS! You want to see the basilisk? *wink*
Adrestia: *glare*
Asia: No thank you.
Curio: CHILDHOOD RUINED. I need bleach for my brain ;_;
Tyler: ... Maybe.
Billy: I will if you let me out.

In other news, I dunno if I'm qualified to cast this one, I'm not a full Harry Potter scholar myself. Perhaps Craig can give us better insight on his picks. Craig?

@D3c3nd4n7: I think that wouldn't be a bad idea at all. :D

MoroseMoros, February 25th, 2014, 6:33 pm     Reply

@ChibiSilverWings: Billy was really the only standout there, the rest of them needed various degrees of getting beaten over the head with a shoehorn to fit into their "roles". I think there could be some interesting pictures made from that mashup though, like Flux with Hagrid's beard. XD

@MoroseMoros: while i don't disagree with you that this maybe some definite Stockholm Syndrome on our part, Amical's group did save them. actually no he brought them back to life, they were already dead in some underground hell hole with a crazy person.. and cypher who was helping her kill runaways. if not for Amical they would never even have the chance at life. sure he threw them in an arena and said "fight" but life does that to us all the time. sure he strapped a magical decapitation collar around their necks, but all secret societies have their own ways of keeping their secret, u cant fault poor Amical for obeying the rules. I mean he cant let them run off leading his enemies to his front door and telling ppl indiscriminately about magic, think about the riffraff they'd attract, beside billy would have become even more famous because of his kidnapping and that is just a no -_-.... no to billy no. anyone that arrogant need a collar and chain. Amical is way to nice to him.

Wow, I missed out on all the fun!

I think the Potter pair-offs are pretty decent. Maybe switch Curio for Neville.

You are all wonderful people each and every one of you. You make me want to work harder to make the comic more successful and worth the time and interest. Thank you all so much!

@D3c3nd4n7: Indeed, they were saved from something that seems like a terrible fate, but based on what I've seen a decent analogy is that they've been rescued from a madman by a slave trader. They were forced to fight to the death to weed out the "weak" candidates, then they got cleaned up, collared, and are being trained. The tone of these conversations suggests that this isn't their final destination by any stretch, that they'll be sold/traded/given to another person/group for their purposes. Perhaps Amical or that hypothetical other group really do have some kind of "greater good" in mind, but I would bet that any group willing to employ these extremes to procure "human resources" is unlikely to be a paragon of morality.

I won't say for certain that Amical is a bad guy, surprisingly I've come up with at least one scenario where Amical is in fact doing close to the most "moral" thing one might do in that situation. I would hardly put it past the creators of this fine story to intentionally try to mislead us on his alignment. However based on what has been said (and what hasn't been said), he seems to fall closer to the dark side of the spectrum.

@stkbayfield: I was thinking of having Curio be Neville, but I wanted to fit Harry in there somewhere. Neville does seem like the better fit though. The best fit for Curio would obviously be never-mentioned-side-character-that-kept-to-themselves-while-all-of-this-action-is-going-o n. :D

ChibiSilverWings, February 26th, 2014, 1:49 am     Reply

@MoroseMoros: It is so true, we would never DREAM of making a morally ambiguous character or ever mislead you ever. We are telling the truth all the time. Especially right now.

Curio is that one kid, the Harry fanboy with the camera that got turned to stone that one time. That is him. And I choose to upgrade Billy to Harry then, for celebrity status reasons.

@MoroseMoros: granted the mages are not perhaps the greatest group I mean instead of killing the faluires the could of healed them and wiped their memory but your looking at them from your moral view point. As you noticed when Amical gave them their collars he was genuanly surprised that they weren't thanking him but as he said they run in different circles. I understand that being a Moros necromancer you have trouble with spirit but pls try understand Amicals genouros one.(that was a joke) but the mages live in a world where vampires and werewolves death and despaire are common place so they won't have the same moral delema as a normal person. Beside Amical is perhaps the most trust worthy person there being archanthus means he can't deceive or break his vows as doing so would cause him pain.

@D3c3nd4n7: check your spells, my dear.They're getting twisted. Hmm, Stockholm by proxy?

Hmm, line eater? Is Malloy trying to make some NSA analogy there? And I agree that Amicla may well make it with all of them if he delegates some of them to mentors. After all, he has experts in most of the fields, so they can take up some of the teaching duties; he doesn't have to do it all himself..

@burningtyger: pardon tyger but which spells are getting twisted?

ChibiSilverWings, February 26th, 2014, 3:58 am     Reply

@D3c3nd4n7: I'm guessing tyger is trying to cleverly refer to your "spelling". Though I would readily assume it's just due to English not being your first language and you probably don't have an English spell checker built in on your browser.

@ChibiSilverWings: MorphE, where everything is exactly how is seems to be on the surface.

@D3c3nd4n7: Like I said, I have at least one scenario going through my head where Amical is actually a good guy. The tricky authors could be manipulating what we the readers witness to try to herd us into incorrect conclusions. Some conversations we see could be taken out of context, others could have not been shown at all.

We could speculate for hours or days on what is actually happening, and with some knowledge of the WoD there might be a few things we could figure out. For the most part the authors are driving this car and we're just along for the ride. At any point there could be some major plot element or twist thrown in with little to no foreshadowing, something impossible to guess. We are at their mercy, and I think that's exactly where they want us to be.

@MoroseMoros: D: i think your right i did notice on the tumblr a drawing of the author taking pleasure in the trauma the caused from a release with the post-it asking us to let them know how they traumatized us cause it was 2000%(insert real no. here) of the reason they did stuff.

The comic being referenced: http://alexis-royce.tumblr.com/post/69855817018/gms-are-always-happy-to-hear-that-theyre and might also be evident from her TPP comic, she loves to make stories that get reactions from people (good, bad, sad, freaked out, whatever.)

But you can rest assured that the others of us working on this comic had to experience the twists, turns and deaths first hand already, and we have quality tested them with tears and anguish. XD
